The University of the East, in cooperation with Philippine Ballet Theater (PBT), through the UE Office of Cultural Affairs (UEOCA), will present “Coppelia” on Tuesday, September 4, at 5 p.m. , at the UE Theater, UE Manila Campus.
A world-known classical ballet in three acts, “Coppelia”, a romantic comedy with characters Dr. Coppélius, Swanhilda and Frantz, was premiered at the Theatre Opera, Paris on May 25, 1870 .
The PBT-version Coppelia will feature PBT’s dancers Lemuel Capa and Veronica Ylagan. The two dancers will play the roles of Frantz and Swanhilda, respectively. Both dancers are UE students: Capa is a 2nd-year student in BSEd in music, arts, physical education and health (MAPEH), and a member of the UE Silanganan Dance Troupe (UESDT), while Ylagan is a 2nd year student in pre-Dentistry program.
The PBT artistic director is Ronilo Jaynario. The UE OCA director is Gener Caringal, concurrent UESDT choreographer.
