PBT Core activities Tour/ Outreach Performances

CORE or Cultural Outreach and Education has been integral to the Philippine Ballet Theatre's history. It was spearheaded by Gawad CCP Awardee Ms Felicitas Radaic, one of the founders of the Philippine Ballet Theatre. Its goal has always been to play a vital role in the Philippine Arts & Culture landscape. PBT wants to promote and cultivate an appreciation for the arts, an appreciation for our Filipino heritage, and the preservation of cultural values.

Additionally, its goal is to guide and support talents who have the potential to break into the professional ballet community.

EXPOSURE

PBT CORE brings the positive power of dance to thousands of people each year through the performance season.

PBT reserves hundreds of seats per production to give to various foundations. PBT CORE traditionally chooses different beneficiaries per season per show. It often partners with reputable social-centric groups to magnify the impact and scope of help PBT can provide to society. This includes but is not limited to Rotary, Zonta, Lions, Magsaysay Foundation, Visayan Forum, Soroptimist International, Inner Wheel Clubs of the Philippines and Heritage Foundation. However, it is important to note that this program has grown through the years, expanding its reach to different umbrellas of advocacy.

From 2010 until the present, the Sayaw Foundation has been a constant beneficiary of this program. Dance scholars from Las Pinas, Tondo, and Mandaluyong are granted free tickets to expose them to high art.

In partnership with various local government units, PBT has performed quality repertoire all over the Philippines.

This too has been a solid constant in its season. Incorporated in these local tours are demonstration and dance classes for the youth.

WORKSHOPS

Included in PBT's Cultural Outreach in Education (CORE) is a series of lectures and demonstrations done in the provinces, giving free ballet classes to public school students. In addition to bringing ballet closer to the people, CORE also hopes to discover good ballet dancers from the provinces.

In Metro Manila, PBT conducts free ballet classes in Mandaluyong and Las Piñas in cooperation with the respective local city governments. Around 100 public school students per city get a chance to attend free ballet classes with the best teachers and choreographers in the Philippines.

SCHOLARSHIP

PBT CORE also supports scholarship programs for promising dancers. It is a tier program that aims to give quality training and professional experience to those who have the potential to become professionals. It starts with a school scholarship followed by a company apprenticeship that hopefully ends with a professional contract.

  • The key elements of PBT Core that PBT wishes to sustain in the coming seasons are as follows:

  • Art Appreciation and education via ticket subsidy for chosen beneficiaries

  • Art Appreciation and education via Local and International Tours.

  • Art Appreciation and education via collaboration with Local Government Units via workshops and demonstrations

  • Free Pre-professional training for promising talent

  • Support of other advocates in line with the values of the Philippine Ballet Theatre
